IMO Goodwill Ambassador and Corporate Communications Director UAE Federal Transport Authority - Land & Maritime (FTA)

Dr. Aysha Al Busmait is the current Director of Government Communications at the Federal Transport Authority for Land & Maritime UAE (FTA). The highly educated Al Busmait holds two Masters Degrees: a Masters in Mass Media from Cairo University (1999), and also a Masters in Sports Management from the American University in the Emirates (2016). Additionally, Al Busmait is a PhD holder in Mass Communication (2004), also from Cairo University.

In her current role with the FTA, Al Busmait is effectively contributing to enhancing the UAE’s leading maritime infrastructure. Accordingly, Al Busmait was a major contributor to the country’s successful re-bid for Category-B membership within the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council. The noteworthy accomplishment enabled the UAE to be the first Arab nation to hold such a distinction. Most recently, her industry advancing efforts were recognised in her election as the first Emirati Woman to boast the title of IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador. This merit is one of many, as Al Busmait’s highly decorated career includes honours such as the ‘Emirates Women Award,’ the ‘H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Motherhood’ from the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care & Special Need, and the ‘Social Services Department Award for Motherhood,’ among many others.

Passionate about developing regional and international maritime capabilities, Al Busmait plays an active role in encouraging and empowering ambitious females to pursue and excel in the industry. She has also been featured in several literary publications, as well as various scientific publications. In her spare time, Al Busmait is a dedicated mother and engages herself in various philanthropic efforts by volunteering in numerous activities which assist women and individuals with disabilities.
